Progression of Names...

One of the main reasons that I enjoy Christopher Moore’s books (besides the zany topics) is that he just takes his story telling to another level.

In “A Dirty Job”, they were trying to track down a girl and one character very surely announced that the girl was a stripper.  

When asked why he was so sure, he replied:

“Yeah, and there's sort of a progression going back to the fifties: 

Bubbles, Boom Boom, and Blaze 

Begat Bambi, Candy, and Jewel

Who begat Sunshine, Brandy, and Cinnamon

Who begat Amber, Brittany, and Brie

Who begat Reagan, Morgan, and Madison.  

Madison is a stripper name."

Je Suis un Pirate!

I am learning French – a little bit at a time.  Every morning, I try out as new phrase on my co-worker. (a native speaker)

And since today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day, I went with the statement of the obvious! 

"Je Suis un Pirate!"  

It made for an amusing conversation about this 'international" holiday.

I have a couple of pirate jokes to share during the day but I am not going to have the same undertaking as last year.  Posting a joke every hour on FB for 12 hours became work by the end.  Something fun should not require an alarm!

So, as I head off to start the silliness, I leave you, dear readers, with this….

"Nothing" Weekend...

I was looking forward to doing nothing this weekend – the first weekend in a while where I did not have a firm commitment of something to do.  Of course, I came down with a cold - it was inevitable - it’s been a whirlwind of fun and running around since March.  

Even though I missed out on a spontaneous fun adventure, it was ok.  I have an axle to replace and it is not a good idea to keep driving on it more than necessary before the part comes in.

Plus, I sat still long enough to mail some gifts, redo my budget (re-fill the emergency fund and funnel extra into the house fund), find a hiking vest and finish a book.  

It was good to do “nothing”!

Heartbreaking....

This is just a punch in the gut - the shore has been thru so much in the past year and right when they are starting to get back to some level of normal, BAM! they are hit with a fire that takes it all away.

And I had another "I've climbed that one and that one" moment.  

 It was a quick stay but we really lucked out with the weather.  I'm looking forward to going back in the winter!

Breathing...

Bit of a change from my regular destination but still a great time with friends and family. 

Bonus was that we were able to tube down the Delaware and have a bonfire despite the rain!


 

Filtered Close To The Week...

Yup, a week ago - still in withdrawl....

4 Out of 35....

It happened while I was sitting on Hurricane Ledge on Kaaterskill High Peak… 

I looked out and said “I’ve climbed that one and that one and there’s the one that we climbed yesterday!”  Very neat to look out and see some of the ones that I have conquered!

And in my mountain counting, I realized that I have 4 out of the 35 mountains needed for the Catskill 3500 club…. 

The reply? 

“That’s how it starts!”

One of the many crashed planes as you hike to the top of Kaaterskill High Peak. I know, it is morbid but I have been wanting to see them for a while. 

Luckily, my tour guide was agreeable to letting me choose some of the hikes!

Rotation...

My first day was the rotation of my mindset....

I definitely had a "Drop the anchor – I'm here to stay!!" feeling when I showed up on my first day.

Same fun people and same familiar surroundings with some new friends added to the mix.  

There's definitely a "return to reality" haze now - I feel like I have been gone for 2 months!

I climbed, I created, I connected and I was complimented....I do love those connections, don't I?

It was an awesome week!!

Yes, it's a new BBQ. 

While that fact is exciting just by itself, the bigger deal is that I assembled it!! My brother helped towards the end but it was mainly my project. 

I made a working BBQ! And it works!!
