ABC Family has had some fun programming during their 25 Days of Christmas promotion...the one that really caught my eye was 2 hours of Pixar movie shorts....I had seen about half of them ones that they featured but they were still great to see.
Of course they included the first one....amazing how they were able to show that the baby lamp was so dejected when he flattened his ball......
I have a confession…..I have been listening to a book on tape (CD).
I hear that phrase – “book on tape” – and cringe…it conjures up images of blue hairs driving at 45 mph on the highway in their massive tank of a sedan.
But the book summary intrigued me when the CD set happened to cross my path so I figured I would try it.
12 cds….13.5 hours total….
I am currently on Disc 4 and I look forward to getting in the car and finding out what happens next.
I actually do not mind getting stuck in traffic because I get to hear more of the story.
It’s true....I have decided to go to the dark side and get an Iphone.
The biggest hurdle was the fact that I would be going from a $40 a month phone bill to $100 a month…$720 a year that I could be throwing at my debt.
Of course, I had to make a list in order to rationalize it….
GPS for hiking/snowshoeing Faster ability to identify the tracks and scat that I see on trails (yes, there is an app for scat… I can log that hike/snowshoe trek Better use of my calendar – avoiding double bookings like this past weekend Be more up to date with email replies Better use of my address book (instead of “wait until I get home to do that”) Take time to play a bit when I get stressed Actually know what people are up to instead of getting on FB once a week
And the biggest reason of all – I got a computer virus at work…very frustrating and I felt like I was dead in the water. I could have tracked a few packages and flights or I could have played Angry Birds to relax while I waited for the verdict…(just in case you were wondering, turns out it’s an evil Root Virus that someone else had a month ago.)
Every teacher has probably taught this story....others have seen it before....I just wanted to put it out to the Universe...
Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so he walked faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.
He came closer still and called out "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?"
The young man paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean."
"I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?" asked the somewhat startled wise man.
To this, the young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die."
Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, "But young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach, and there are starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly make a difference!"
At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean.
As it met the water, he said, "It made a difference for that one.
