When You Find You...

Just heard this song for the first time today...weird timing given the other stuff that is going on...

You say you gotta go and find yourself
You say that you're becoming someone else
Don't recognize the face in the mirror looking back at you

You say you're leaving as you look away
I know there's really nothing left to say
Just know I'm here whenever you need me I'll wait for you

So I'll let you go, I'll set you free
And when you've seen what you need to see
When you find you, come back to me

Take your time, I won't go anywhere
Picture you with the wind in your hair
I'll keep your things right where you left them
I'll be here for you

Oh and I'll let you go, I'll set your free
And when you've seen what you need to see
When you find you, come back to me

And I hope you find everything that you need
I'll be right here waiting to see
You find you, come back to me

I can't get close if you're not there
I can't get inside if there's no soul there
I can't face you, I can't save you
It's something you'll have to do

So I'll let you go, I'll set you free
And when you've seen what you need to see
When you find you, come back to me
Come back to me

So I'll let you go, I'll set you free
And when you've seen what you need to see
When you find you, come back to me

And I hope you find everything that you need
I'll be right here waiting to see
You find you, come back to me

You find you, come back to me
When you find you, come back to me
When you find you, come back to me

Hurricane Irene 2...

This is our local hospital….take a minute and look at where the road should be – parking lots are just beyond that…

The mall that has a moat is very close to where I work….

For even more pix - go here - http://photos.nj.com/njcom_photo_essays/2011/08/images_of_the_aftermath_of_hur.html

Hurricane Irene…

As we started the prep for the hurricane, I was a bit pissed….ok, a lot pissed that the hurricane was ruining my weekend plans…

We sandbagged the garage closed (it goes in under the house), we tied the BBQ to the deck railing, we braved Shoprite and bought water and wine, we retrieved She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Blogged-About after securing her house, we pulled out all the candles and flashlights…..

And then we waited…..

We were lucky – the hurricane was not that bad for us…. She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Blogged-About was not happy about being out of her environment so that was pretty bad but there was nothing that could be done and we all suffered through it….

Then we saw the pictures of what had happened to our neighboring towns due to the flooding….

This is Route 287 - anyone that has visited me from the North has been on this stretch of road.

Grumble...

I know...

I know...

I know...

I can't control the hurricane....

But did it really have to show up on the weekend that we had all planned to go to the Ren Faire??

Hurricane Irene is a jerk....

Is There A Problem?

What happens when I am not home...or when they think that I am not home....

Fix You...

Coldplay's "Fix You" was at the end of a Grey's Anatomy episode a while ago (you know, they always have that montage at the end....)....it struck a chord with me....fantastic lyrics....

I think that I like it better live though....interesting lead in on it using Amy Winehouse's "Rehab"....

When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Tears stream down on your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down on your face
And I...

Tears stream down on your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down on your face
And I...

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Paper and Ink...

I have rediscovered the library…mainly because you can request books from the entire county online!

As a result, I have the opportunity to read a bunch of books that I have always had interest in but did not necessarily want to purchase….

The topics range from Historic Ruins of the Hudson Valley to Kat Von D’s books to the Disney Secrets to others…

I am currently reading Mouse Under Glass – Secrets of Disney Animation and Theme Parks by David Koenig. Lots of fun tidbits and of course I latch onto the pirate stuff…

There are 20 types of deviant behavior promoted by the Pirates of the Carribean theme song “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life For Me)”. The author points out that many of the deeds seem redundant, but here they are:

Plundering
Pillaging
Rifling
Looting
Kidnapping
Ravaging
Extorting
Pilfering
Filching
Sacking
Marauding
Embzzeling
Hijacking
Kindling
Charring
Inflaming
Igniting
Burning up the city
Begging
And of course drinking up, me hearties, yo ho!

If you are interested in what I have been reading and have read, click on the Goodreads link to the right – it will bring you to my bookshelf!

Doritos...

This conversation did not go the way that I expected at all...

When you thank your friend in the military for the sacrifices that they make so that you can sit on your butt and eat Doritos...

You do not expect the reply to be “Doritos are important”.

Not Disco Fries…

I have to make a public apology for ever comparing the two….in CT there is a restaurant called Chez Ben….it’s the real deal….

Pictured below is breakfast poutine…it can not be compared to anything…Nom, Nom, Nom….

Movie Remakes…

Are there really no original ideas left??

A-Team, Charlie’s Angels, Tron, The Hulk, Batman....

And now Dirty Dancing…..

Really?!??!

Two Perspectives...

The cat with the fragile nerves (AKA behaves like a cat unlike the other one that behaves like a dog) has a not so subtle way of letting me know that she is upset that I am going to work...

And when I get home, she has a not so subtle way of inspecting where I have been....

Piragi...

I have been helping a friend make cultural treats for her wedding….every culture has a “hand held meat inside bread” dish. Latvains have piragi!

I arrived at her place last week and walked into a kitchen where there was flour flying in the air. I turned towards the hum of the mixer and saw that it being attended by a barefoot, long skirted blonde wearing her grandmother’s apron with amber earrings bobbing as she kept checking the dough’s stickiness….her ecstatic happiness was absolutely contagious!

We made about 100 piragi that night in what seemed like record time…..just make the dough flat, add some filling and make it into a little bun….Besides the mix of the meats, the real secret of making piragi is the social factor – she had made some on her own but said that the ones that we made together looked better.

As I have said before…I need the good things….this definitely qualifies!!
